Study of Mediums, Forms & Materials
Shafqat has experimented with a diverse variety of materials and techniques, inclusive of dyeing (using both synthetic and natural dyes), batik, screen-printing, handloom and off-loom weaving, hand and machine embroidery, silk painting, felt-making, patchwork (appliqué), origami, etc. She enjoys playing around with textures, and her inspiration is derived from the fantastical and luxuriant designs of Alexander McQueen. She has extensive research with a variety of materials. She has combined her interest in textures, design, and 3-D forms with the idea of indulging in the comforting sight of nature. The element that she uses in her practice is the repetitive use of textures of different organic forms, to create visual textures and 3-D dimensions. She employes the device of Repetition carefully, in order to avoid monotony
